Change The World

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”  John 13:34-35 NIV.

Change the World

This year marks the 12th annual Change the World event which we are honored to dedicate to the memory of Matie Flowers, Ph.D., longtime church leader, who continues to inspire us to be the hands, feet and compassionate heart of Jesus Christ.

Our church has designated the month of May to sharing God’s love in a variety of ways.  We will donate food to the hungry, raise awareness of the dangers of addiction and suicide, express our appreciation to our Veterans, spend time with shut-ins and assist in providing a vegetable garden for senior-housing residents.  We will also help our young people appreciate God’s four-legged creatures, bring music to the elderly, provide hygiene products and clothing to the needy, help build community with a fun-filled food truck event and reach out to those who need a reminder of God’s love and presence. We encourage everyone to get involved in one or all of these opportunities.  Feel free to use your imagination and find another way to share the love.  Let this be the beginning of a year-long, lifelong process!

The MoonCatcher Project Removing Barriers for Girls

You’re Invited to a Moonbee!!

In conjunction with our twelfth annual Change the World event, our church is proud to host our second MoonBee on Tuesday, May 13 from  10AM until Noon in Fellowship Hall. Moonbees are hosted in cities across the country, led by founder Ellie Wellsheim.  These  sewing bees bring together diverse groups of volunteers who make MoonCatcher Kits for distribution either locally or to girls around the globe.

Since 2011, The MoonCatcher Project,  has been making reusable, washable menstrual management kits – “MoonCatcher Kits” – for distribution to girls around the world. They provide the information and supplies  needed to manage menstruation with dignity and confidence, increasing the girls’ chances of staying in school.

Our “Made by Hand With Love” ministry will be taking the lead in this valuable project.  Everyone is invited to participate.  No experience is required  and materials will be provided.  Visit their website for more information www.mooncatcher.org or see Aleta Schweigert.  We hope to see you there!

Red Bird Mission Shoebox Project

Red Bird Mission Building on a Legacy of FaithHelp to make a difference in someone’s life.  One of several Change the World projects during the month of May is to participate in the Red Bird Mission Shoebox Project.   Over the last three years we have donated close to 225 shoeboxes!  Can we get another 60 boxes this  year?   Fill a shoebox with personal hygiene items for needy adults and children living in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky.

As an alternative to filling a shoebox, you may be interested in donating an item from the list such as a small flashlight or a bar of soap.  These loose items may be placed in a bin in the church foyer.  Our Made by Hand with Love group has made winter hats and mittens that are available in the foyer for use in the shoeboxes. Shoeboxes will be available at church before May 1 or feel free to use your own plastic or cardboard shoebox.  Lists of needed items are also available at church inside the shoeboxes.

Please indicate on the top of the box if this is for an adult male, adult female, male or female child ages 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14.  Please seal the box and return to church by May 31.  We will see that the boxes are delivered. Thank you for helping us change the world!Empty box with cover
